The Archives of Historical and Ethnographic Yiddish Memories

Professor Veidlinger was co-director, together with Professor Dov-Ber Kerler of Indiana University, of the Archives of Historical and Ethnographic Yiddish Memories (AHEYM: the acronym means “homeward” in Yiddish), a digital video collection of approximately 600 hours of Yiddish language interviews conducted in Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia between 2002 and 2009. The interviews include linguistic and dialectological data, oral histories of Jewish life, Holocaust testimonials, musical performances, folklore, reflections on contemporary Jewish life in the region, and guided tours of sites of Jewish memory.  The entire archive is accessible through Indiana University's Online Media Collections.  The Project was funded by Indiana University and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
